Sword 6
Wakizashi no-signature
under restoration work
We found a nice wakizashi, but it has some deep rust in some parts.

Blade length 39.2cm, thickness at the base 7mm, width 2.9cm

It looks a blade of Soshu tradition probably from 16th century or so. So it is so called "sue-Soshu".
Steel has a wood grain layer pattern. And hamon is made of large particles. Those characters show typical style of Soshu tradition in 15-16th century.

It is under restoration work, since it has deep rust in some parts.

Tang also is very damaged by deep rust. So it is difficult to find a signature.

Habaki is made of silver. It looks nice.

It is under restoration work. And when the craftsman splitted the shirasaya to clean inside, it turned out it's too dirty with rust and stain. So it's better to make a new one. Then, the further works are re-polishing in sashikomi style (the classical style) and making new shirasaya.
