Kikuchi-yari

Blade length 23.2cm, thickness at the base 1.0cm, width 1.9cm

This was originally kikuchi-yari, maybe from 14th century. But the tang is cut off to convert it to use as tanto.

Steel has wood grain layer pattern. It is flowing like straight pattern in some parts. The steel layer around the edge is compact.

Hamon is made of large particles. The particles at the temper line spread a little. The hamon pattern is naturally waving. It has yaki-otoshi around the machi, and start as narrow straight pattern toward the middle part of the blade, and then, it becomes wider toward the tip. Some small kinsuji appears. Utsuri starts together with the hamon, and then it fading in the steel.

The steel and the hamon suggests typical style of blades of Kyushu in 13th - 14th century. The hamon and other activities are amazing, but difficult to be taken by camera clearly. So, we will make a hamon sketch soon.
